Welcome to Simple Changes

Our mission is to enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities, their families and community through exceptional programs, especially equine assisted activities.  We are located in Northern Virginia.

Delaney rides Yogi on the trailDear Friends —

I wish I had a video of Delaney, one of our young adult riders — a survivor of leukemia, a brain bleed and bone marrow transplant — walking with support to mount Yogi for her lesson. The intense concentration of making her legs follow her brain’s misfires and getting her up the ramp. So slow and yet so determined. So awkward, but so purposeful.

And then, once on the horse, seeing her portray the picture of self-confidence and even elegance as she rides with balance and joy. It is glorious, and humbling, to see such grace and fortitude in action. “Simple Changes has brought out strength I never knew I had,” says Delaney.

With that picture of the importance of our mission in mind, I am sad to say that Simple Changes has suspended lessons (and lesson fees) at this time and cancelled our major fundraiser of the year, the Kentucky Derby Party. This fundraiser typically brings in 25% of the income that supports our programs that improve lives.

Every donation helps:

  • $65 – supports one rider for one lesson
  • $100 – cost of one Derby Party ticket
  • $250 – provides hay, grain, shavings and manure removal for one horse for one month
  • $650 – supports one rider for 10 lessons once lessons resume
  • $5000 – sponsors one horse for one year

Please take a moment, think of Delaney and all of our riders, and then consider donating generously to ensure that programming continues and thrives when we are on the other side of COVID-19. Donate online or send a check made out to Simple Changes at P.O. Box 991, Lorton, VA 22199.

Please help us scatter seeds of hope as we continue to help those that will always need it most.

With thanks,
